So here's a chicken and egg question for all you theory experts: Do keys define chords, or is it the other way around. Well...what I can see is...when I see a tonality (whatever the one is) I see right away what are the degrees related with this tonality. I know where is the second degree (minor), ...

It's grammar. Traditionaly add 9 is the most used for 1 3 5 9. If someone writes. 2 instead we know what they mean. Dadd9. And Dadd 2 is the same thing. Sus is usually used when raising the 3rd to the 4th. Semantics.

Hi, I recorded an improv. In the left hand, i'm constantly playing an Dadd9 chord (I think that's about the same as a Dsus2, but then the sus2 note an octave higher ??) and improvising with triads in the right hand. Hope you like it :-) https://soundcloud.com/bas-verkooijen/improv-over-dadd9-201301...

[quote="mike kemp] I have played the cello and upright bass and fretless electric bass before. That experience helps alot. Because of the precision involved playing the "european" or western scales on those instruments, I am having difficulty forcing myself to play the quarter(give or...

Hey, anyone who cares. I got my Oud yesterday!!! Now I've got another possible distraction from being the best Stick player that I can be. Some day I want to take a photo, sort of a "family portrait" of all my instruments. Not to brag about(like kids or grandkids), just to cherish. (And m...
