Thanks a lot Steve You don't know how much I appreciate the input. In essence I set out to make a jazz cd as close to the music I love as I could. The idea was to take a quartet into the studio and just play some tunes. I wanted a raw feel (warts and all) with little or no overdubs. Unfortunately I ... |

Hey Steve Try this: Just keep a quarter note rhythm in your left hand even if its the same few notes over and over. Then try soloing with the right. Don't try to be charlie parker just get a feel for phrasing. I starts out as baloney but you get the same sensation doing this that you will when you g... |

Hey Tony thanks for the compliment. Steve I can relate as well. The jazz world can be very difficult to break into as a stickist. I have found most players come around when they hear you can play, but not everyone. Some guys just want upright bass period. I have a friend who plays bebop piano he rea... |

So here's my question : can anyone recommend a rack mountable mixer with good preamps aux sends and retu... |

I've got the week off from teaching, and my main project is painting my rehearsal room. So I go to my local Benjamin Moore store to get some paint. As I'm looking through various greys to make a choice, I noticed the name of the color I liked it's called "Greg Howard" I almost fell over un... |

I think that most great artists have a musical vision and technique is developed to enable that vision to come to light. Style is a label put on music by critics and by people trying to copy an artist or simply to categorize what we hear in order to better understand it. In the case of the stick I t... |

Hi Steve Kenny Werner has some great ideas about this in his book "Effortless Mastery". In short he recommends sitting down with a piece of manuscript paper and just writing down a few notes and rhythms. Then just work from there trying to build musically around them. slowly develop themes... |

I think this is an area which can really be utilized on the stick. As someone who is often thought of as a guitar + bass guy I also look at the stick in the way you guys are describing. Listening to great pianists both classical and jazz it never sounds like one hand is dominant This is something th... |
