Guitar Pro6 as made by Arobas... Not too expensive, and very powerful. Easy to use, it is a critical component in my practice structure...

Why are covers important? If you only go your supposed original path, you will probably present only what your abilities will allow. In other words you're presenting a limited story. Covers force you to find predetermined vocabulary that maybe you've never experienced. Not an end all but a good way...
