I'm not convinced that knowing how to play the bass or guitar is any more of an advantage for learning The Stick than knowing any other instrument. Sometimes it can be a detriment as many guitarists or bassist come in thinking that the Stick is like a "bass or guitar on steroids" which, t... |

My wheels screached to a halt in the "perfect pitch" section though. That's something I just don't have. In grad school I took a music cognition class, and there was this one study how people who don't normally have perfect pitch can still, in a large percentage of cases, identify the fir... |

Cool! We use to drill endlessly on stuff like this in college and I found it very useful. Especially when it came to figuring out other people's tunes.

Very true. And I've heard seveal instrumental "rock guitar gods" where the soloing was strong but the song writing was nothing more than something to hang the solo off of. Yep. And let's be real here ... this is not confined to rock. There are plenty of jazz tunes out there that are just ... |

I don't think I need a lot of contrast. This is personal preference but it seems that by and large most folks like contrast. My new stick is Jade linears against Light Bamboo. It's a little more than just preference. I have a paduak Stick with pau inlays. The inlays are beautiful to be sure. I was ... |

I find that music like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The more simple music is the more people can understand it's message. The more involved the message the more people you lose. This DOESN'T mean the more involved message (More technical music) isn't "musical" ... Sometimes ... t... |

I think one of the reasons it's so prevalent in the guitar world is because the guitar is the king instrument in rock/pop and this is a genre of music that by and large does NOT reward musicianship and puts just about every other criteria above musicianship. Making a blanket statement like this mak... |

Slow Gear and defretter are not the same. Defretter will mess with the attack just a little and is also a modulation effect. Slow Gear is an adjustably slow attack. Historically SG effects are a bit tricky with notes from six strings coming in at once so you have to develop the technique to make the... |

I really can't recommend Bob's lessons enough. Especially for beginners. I ordered the VHS versions with my very first Stick and took delivery on both at the same time. I remember tapping for a couple of minutes thinking to myself "what have I done" and then popping the tapes in. It was re... |
