When I was a guitarist, I took classical lessons for a few years, so naturally I was taught to sight read. When I switched to the Stick, I became more interested in composing my own music rather than executing pieces by other people. So reading kind of fell by the wayside. But it did come to my resc...

In the studio, indoor gig, or practice room, the Stick may be one of the most stable stringed instruments ever, with great intonation. But if you take it outside, it becomes much more vulnerable to neck shifting and going out of tune (as with any instrument of wood). I played outdoor festivals for 1...

+1. Coming from the guitar, I fell into the tapping world by way of Stanley Jordan. At that time, I had never heard of King Crimson, Tony Levin, the Chapman Stick, or Emmett himself. Big congrats on your new Stick, Dean. Best wishes in all of your tapping endeavors. Btw, Mark White was my partner in our Stick duo Heartstrings, but we're both soloists now. I wrote "Up From the Ashes" back in 2008. Really glad it was of inspiration to you!!!

Absolutely. Just get yourself a small mixer or preamp and run both sides of the Stick into it. You'll be able to EQ the bass and melody separately and set output levels for each side. From the mixer, you just run mono out to your amp. If you just have a single channel amp and no mixer or preamp, a Y...

Samson, sorry I missed your message. Been crazy busy with gigs in the New England area. I'm not based out of Texas anymore, but I may be around there during April for a show or two. Do you know the exact date of the wedding? If I can't do it, Mark White may be around. He's in the UK at the moment, b...
