I am curious to know why you would exclude private instruction? You will learn more with a private instructor in 10 minutes as a new player than an hour with printed materials. If one were to take 15% of what was paid for the instrument and set that aside for a few months of practice, the learning p... |

I am especially fond of the counterpoint that is heard against the melody at the beginning of the verses and pre-choruses. The upper registers in the left hand, tightly voiced with the melody singing out over them, sounds like a harpsichord. This delicious unaccompanied sound belongs to the Stick an... |

Giancarlo making it look easy, straight up melting faces and dropping jaws at a Guitar Center. Sounds like it was pulled right off a Band of Gypsies bootleg.

Next week is really going to be one you are not going to want to miss. Dan's work is very high quality and heartfelt. I get shivers when I think of being at the showing of the work in progress out in Bel-Air. We are putting together a couple of great programs - June is NS month, we'll have a month o... |

We were missing you Kev! Kataway and Bas had some log in trouble - but it was still an excellent crowd. The 10 minute conversation that I had with Steve after the recording blew my mind - he basically relayed some information on how to arrange chords and solo over the descending part in one note sam... |

Frank was an amazing jazz player.
Unfortunately, the term touchstyle is the douchebaggery of those trying to re-brand or re-invent what Emmett had already invented, documented and published.
Although, I'd be lying if I didn't state I was at least curious... |

Agreed - a fun thread. Having some structure in place will allow you to deep dive into other aspects of your music that want to explore. The music itself can unstructured, I am only referring to the process by which it is attained. This will boil down to what's important to learn right now tempered ... |

Wow - all good responses! I am really enjoying reading through these, having the perspective of others is SO valuable. There is so much that's new about the instrument when you first start, I feel this is a very good question to ponder (and I still do...). Try this - don't plug the instrument in. Ma... |

Thanks mr. Hawg! So I don't generally use a finger-builder technique. That's not to say it couldn't work for some. I have been able to get good, measurable results from using the "song as exercise" principle. Each song has a hidden change, a tricky part or that darned bridge that will ulti... |
