Summer has been quite busy. After our move back to NY, the gig schedule in our beach town was fairly busy. That winds down in a few weeks. As usual, this gives me more time to teach. I will be scheduling new online students beginning late August. Feel free to contact me with inquiries. All styles, l... |

Surprised to read this. You've got great musucal instincts and your Stick output has quality. I also know your heart is with the bass and you need to put your energies there. Best of luck on your creative journey

Yes, that's the book. Little bios on each player. Being included in a book covering Wes, Django, Metheny, Martino etc is an honor I will always cherish, especially playing this amazing instrument .

What is "jazz" anyway? Bird, Monk, Ellington, Trane, Wes, Django..... Then there's McLaughlin, Corea, Holdsworth, Metheny...... I prefer calling it "creative music" including some harmonic, melodic and rhythmic complexity with the opportunity to improvise variations on the compos... |

I play solo and in an ensemble much within the Steve Adelson approach. Bass, chords, melody, improvs, rhythm all integrated on The Stick, orchestrated within the calling of the musuc.

You can add mystery by indeed playing the F# over the Gmi chord, producing a mi #7 chord. I call this the "Spy chord". Also over the Gmi, you can play a descending line G F# F E for a standard latin "montuno" effect Try right hand G-D, F#-D, F-D, E-D So much to explore in the Lat... |

Indeed throw in that F#! Gmi scale is GABbCDEbF D7 is DF#AC The F# in the D7 is the raised 7th of the Gmi scale The D7 with the F# resolves "harmonically" better to the tonic Gminor as a leading tone. For that reason this is known as the "Harmonic minor scale" Steve A BTW... if y... |

My post on FB Playing a non traditional instrument has been quite an interesting and challenging experience. The Chapman Stick has little history but lots of potential. So when I get the opportunity to play with amazing musicians, the journey becomes extremely gratifying. Thanks to Chieli Minucci , ... |
