The little Zoom MS-50, MS-100 and MS-70CDR pedals make great "Swiss Army Knife" pedals for busking. They're all multi-effects units with tone shaping options and some excellent delays/reverbs (particularly on the MS-70). The cost would be comparable to buying a Boss EQ or similar.

The Stickup only has one EQ setting ;) But I find it relatively consistent, providing there's some form of simple preamp in the chain. The MPA yields an acceptable tone as a plug-and-play amp with my Stick, but a small amount of reverb and high-mid "cut" really makes it sparkle. The more I...

Very interesting perspective, Per. I've come to a similar conclusion re. using one MPA for busking. In my experience, portability and practicality usually win out over better audio quality. I base that comment partly on the fact that I made more money busking with my old Crate Taxi amp than any othe...

Will be interested in your thoughts about the MPA. No match for your Genelecs in critical listening, that's for sure! I'm still pretty happy with mine. Once you start pushing the Behringers, the sound tends to deteriorate fast, but with a pair I find them quite good for the type of gigs I do. I've r...

Interesting Per. The old Crate Limo amps had a similar issue; the channels were interdependent somehow. To my ears, one of the EX's channels sounded much more natural than the other (probably due to impedance loading). If I was going to use one for busking, I would probably premix my signals before ...

FWIW I recently stumbled across some video of Pascal Glanville busking in London. From what I could tell he was playing a P4 grand plugged straight into a Cube Street EX, and it sounded great. I didn't have time to look carefully, but will try to find the link again. To be honest, all commercially a...

Beware the live sound guys; even experienced ones. Most of them have no idea how a Stick works, particularly the bass range. They expect the bass side to be "all bass notes". They see your fingers moving on the higher pitched bass strings and think that something is wrong because they're n...

I hate carrying a lot of gear. IMO Rob is right on target with the Fishman amps, assuming you mainly want a bit of EQ and reverb. Any good quality acoustic amp (I've used AER, Genz Benz, Carvin and tried numerous others) will give you 2 channels with high impedance inputs and generally very usable r...

I may be somewhat strange in that I actually use my volume knobs for swells sometimes... :o I opened up the pickup and the whole bass volume assembly was quite loose (the treble one is firmly in place, not sure if it's just the nut holding it or if there's some glue too). Used some contact spray etc...

Thanks guys, most helpful!
I'm not much of a techie, particularly when it comes to electronics (I'm sweating just thinking about it..).

Happy New Year!
