Very interesting topic! I think tuning helps define your approach but if you tune a guitar traditionally, to an open G chord or some other exotic tuning it's still a guitar. So obviously tuning doesn't define what a guitar is. Being the inventer I'd love to see Emmett chime in on this. From what I ... |

What's your motivation for wanting to do this, if I may ask? Maybe there's another idea... My main motivation is to have an increased melody range. Guitar is my main instrument and I'm used to having the high notes from the 12th fret E to 22nd fret D on the first string. I've tried to play a couple... |

On a 10 string, 36" scale, MR tuned Stick, would it be possible to remove the high bass string (10) E, shift the other 9 strings down, and add a high F to the melody? Basically, going from MR to: Melody 1) F 2) C 3) G 4) D 5) A 6) E Bass 7) C 8) G 9) D 10) A What would stand in the way of maki... |

Hi everyone, I've just posted a review of Jeff Pearce's latest CD, Rainshadow Sky at stick.com: http://www.stick.com/videoscds/cds/pearce.html This is a beautiful record, and he's making quite a few waves in the New Age and ambient music world with it. Congratulations, Jeff, and thanks for the music... |

What are the simlarities and differences between the Alto Stick and the Stick Guitar? Is the SG12 a twelve string version of the Alto? (same scale) Hi Ben, That's a good way to think of it. The short scale means that the strings can be tuned a little bit higher than on similar fret positions for a ... |

I guess I would just clarify that in my experience 4ths and 5ths both offer a wide variety of bass and chord accompaniment, they are more like different languages with their own particular sounds. I've never really felt I'm that limited in terms of possibilities or pitch range, although admittedly ... |

Hi Greg, I'm still deeply interested in the dialogue - it's just that a few hours ago a client decided that they wanted their project to go live next Monday (and we thought it would be in a few weeks), and that mean's I'll be working all hours to complete that and the other urgent work already due ... |

I'm really thinking I need to go in that direction, 88. I would love to actually own 3 or more, because they all have different applications. I was leaning toward a stick, but once I started to mentally 're-arrange' my parts for an upcoming studio session, I realized then stick would be brilliant f... |

Hi Ian, you seem to want to wind things down so here are some last points. Just tried playing a major chord at the 1st fret and to play it comfortably my pinky was half way along the fret (no buzzes or anything) - no time for photos I'm afraid. Also tried the chord sequence for the video with no per... |
