Post Re: mp3 player not working? NOW WORKING
I'd like to make a pitch to switch to an HTML 5 based music player. It is very clear that Flash is (finally) on the way out and it would be great to be able to hear music postings on my mobile devices. Adobe has already announced that they are dropping support for Flash on all mobile devices including Android. I read this forum almost exclusively on my iPad. Here are some HTML 5 music players to consider. There are more out there, this is good start for experimenting.

Thanks for considering this.

Looking into this now, thanks for the heads up!
I like it, but now trying to see if I can integrate it onto these forums and use a bbcode for easy use. Stay tuned.

So how hard is it to incorporate such a player onto a regular website?

I need to replace the google player on the SE site and on my own site as well.

Can you point me to some simple instructions?

First question is do you need a player with playlists or a single-tune player? This might warrant a new thread.

Just a single-tune player

Here are 2 approaches, one for a web page, the second as a Wordpress plugin.

http://jplayer.org/

Done! The audio player is now HTML5 and no longer flash. Thanks for this push and resources!

There is a caveat that comes with the HTML5 players (not here but if you're talking Stick Enterprises). Now ... personally I would love nothing more than to tell people who are, for whatever retarded reason, unwilling to upgrade their browsers to go take a flying leap. Unfortunately, those people are still extremely numerous though and that is keeping a lot of businesses from making the jump.

Of course, you can clutter up your pages in an effort to support both. Personally I like the "go take a flying leap" approach but that's just me.

This is just food for thought. But keep in mind that early on when the current SE site first came to life, I was hammered with emails about parts of the site that didn't work with scripting turned off and parts that didn't work in IE6.

Of course, if you're willing to embrace HTML5 you have the option of skipping the 3rd party solution and going straight to the <audio> tag which looks great until you discover that Firefox has opted to not support MP3 as an audio format
