I was in London for a few days in September and did a spot at an open mic. I scoured Google on arrival for open mics in London and found a few listings of various places, in fact lots came up ,quite spread out also. I think the trick is to do the Research first . Quite a few needed contact prior because they get busy , but the STICK should be a winner!
I was at a little pub called The Bowler,not that far from Soho where I stayed, best i could do with a days notice. Quiet night but fun, wide range of " talent " but the girl who looked a bit like Amy Winehouse and sang with a Baby Taylor Guitar was a pretty cool surprise.
Maybe some of the UK players can chime in.
Have a great time in London, one of my favorite cities.
