Post a 14 year thank you to Emmett
It's my stick anniversary, just beginning my 15th year of playing. I hate attention directed at myself, but I just feel the need to say thanks.

14 years ago my learning disabilities brought me to a crossroads. Stop playing music or find a way to express myself on an instrument which I can play alone. I remembered the Stick from my prog roots and gave it a try. Emmett truly saved musical expression for me. So as we debate the musical merits of different tunings, or instruments I for one am forever indebted for the gift I was given. I studied piano and guitar to no avail but the stick clicked. So thanks Emmett.

Your vision has made me happy and my life much, much better.

Brett

Brett, you are an inspiration. Probably one of the best players i have ever seen/heard; regardless of the instrument you play. 14 years, eh? Man, I can only hope I am a tenth of where you are at in 14 years. hahaha

You should draw MORE attention to yourself, you sound great and people like your playing!

Brett, whenever Stickist talk about other Stickists, your name is always right there at the front. Your playing is a true pleasure to watch, for its effortless ease and sheer joy of movement. I'm sure you have heights yet to reach and I'm still excited about those jazz chords for Stick you mentioned. Congratulations on 15 years of playing!

Bravo, Brett.

You have been such a positive force in music and for this forum. Thanks for your support and all the kind words. I had no idea the circumstances that brought you to The Stick. Who knew?

All good things.

I like to read you Brett. The fact that you are starting your 15th year shows me how far we can go, how there is always hope to play better. On my side I started my 6th year at the beginning of October. I was coming on this forum about 10 months before getting my stick. It was a long time waiting for the beast. More players should tell how long they play. It gives an idea about musician's evolution.

Cheers, Brett!

This month marks 31 years for me. I still have so much to learn. Your sets at the Stick night last spring were killer.

I can't wait to hear what you sound like 5 years from now...

Thank you all for the kind comments, however I was hoping the thread would be more about Emmett than me

However, I was thinking about Greg's 5 year comment and how much musical truth it contains.

Is there another art form which benefits as much from study as music? Certainly the painter and sculptor, potter and dancer gets better with practice and diligence, but the composer and player can often change his/her whole artistic world with an open mind, ears and dedication. Think about the growth shown by all composers great and small over time and the evolution of the dedicated jazz artist. It really is amazing how we can grow, and as I've said before the new batch of stick playing musicians is astounding, I can't wait to hear where we will all be in 5 or 10 years. So thanks again to Emmett and the community.

Hi Brett! Don't worry too much about the attention and praise. The main reason we're all here and show our work and debate important and less important subjects, Is not about showing off, but rather being supportive and helping each other. In your case, it's also about inspiration and motivation, cause that's what you give us. Wether you believe it or not. And with you in mind we work a little harder, push a little further and share that same feeling of gratitude towards Emmet. So, from the heart, congratulations on your 14 years, thank you for showing us your music and thank you Emmet from every single one of us ;)
