I will be teaching skype lessons
Hello fellow stickists, I gave my first skype lesson yesterday and found it very enjoyable and surprisingly effective technologically. I am now offering skype and or other internet video format lessons. The lessons will be $90 for one hour or $60 for a half hour. Please e-mail me directly for scheduling. I am also going to offer small group lessons limited to 3-4 people at once. For one hour at $40 each. I will need some assistance on setting up group video conferencing part and will offer their lesson for free for helping out. For the group lesson the format will mostly be question and answer. I have found this way very effective in not only addressing the person's needs but inspiring new information for all of us. The group lessons will be either beginner (newbie or very basic knowledge of the Stick) or not beginner. My e-mail is bob@stickmusic.comCheers, Bob

OK, now I just need to be worthy of lessons lol By the time you felt worthy of lessons you wouldn't need them. The best time for lessons is right now! I've had a face-to-face private lesson with Bob and went to two workshops with him. He is great with new people and everyone else. Just do it. -Eric

My e-mail is bob@stickmusic.comCheers, Bob Bob, welcome to Skype. The world will greatly benefit from being able to take lessons from you via the Internet--and I'm strongly considering it myself. The group option sounds fascinating as well. Oh, and please disregard the many posts around here from me gushing about how awesome you are. I didn't think you were an actual real live human being that might actually read my fanboy ravings. Now if Scarlett Johansson ever starts reading this forum, then I'll REALLY be embarrassed...

Re: I will be teaching skype lessons
Welcome to the wonderful world of Skype, Bob. Nothing quite like waking up in the morning and teaching a guy who's just gotten home from his gig in Sydney. I'm drinking coffee, he's drinking beer. I'm freezing cold cause I forgot to leave the heat on in my studio overnight, and he's got a t-shirt and shorts on...
Cheers!

Re: I will be teaching skype lessons
Thanks Greg for the welcome. I gave a lesson the other day and found the skype image, and sound tracking way better than I thought it would be. It does feel like you are there. We did have one moment where the connection started to fail but found that re dialing worked.
One question for you and everyone. Do you send pdfs during the lesson. If i were to diagram something with a pencil I assume i could just take a still of it and send or show via the camera and they take a screen shot?
I look forward to working with the community.
Cheers,
Bob

Re: I will be teaching skype lessons
A screenshot is a great idea. Just tell your student to have whatever application they use for that open before the lesson starts.
I have no desire to see my lessons show up on Youtube, so my policy is not to let my students make a video recording of my screen in the lesson. They can record the whole audio, and their video, but not my video. So a screenshot is a great way to have them retain certain things.
I always tell my students to take what they can from each teacher's perspective and work it into their own technique and musical goals. The fact that people want to take lessons from a variety of teachers is a great thing, and the fact that the teachers here are not fiighting over a relatively small pie is also a great thing.
Cheers!
