Ever find yourself bopping to a great song and then comes "that chord", you know "that chord" that stops you in your tracks - and you say but it's that's not in that key. The emotional impact from "that chord" elevates the song, makes it one of those cool songs to play and on your next listen gives you anticipation for "that chord".

"Spock where.... do .... they .... come ..... from?" Spock "Usually a parallel minor universe" Captain "you mean Parallel KEY, like if you are in C major then from C Natural minor"
Spock making a universal gesture usually reserved for driving when someone cuts you off.

So here is a great little vid I found that uses really cool pop and R&B tunes to show you how to Drress Up your own music and add emotion. Enjoy and hope it helps,

So Dobro, how do you play a Bflat-11 on a Stick? :geek:

It sounds to me like that chord has a song around it 8-).

Hi JRJ- Steve A gives the true and jazzy 11th.

You might be looking for a lighter 11th that is used in pop music.
Here's the easy way to do it.
Play the root, here Bb" in your LEFT hand in the bass.
Play a MAJOR chord one WHOLE step lower in your RIGHT hand on the melody side, here Ab. They usually use the first inversion ab-c-eb but other inversions will work just a different texture.

So the chord could look like this Ab/Bb (bass). and that's it!

You are sooooo right, it is used in pop songs and has a really cool flavor. like....

10cc- "I'm Not in Love" intro

Ace - "How Long" intro [whose lead singer Paul Carrick went to sing lead vocal for Mike & the Mechanics]

Pablo Cruise "Whatcha gonna do when she says good bye"

hope this helps,
