Post Tap In Time, Episode 29 - Jim Meyer
Our latest episode is now published, and this time we bring Jim Meyer back into the virtual studio to celebrate and talk about the Vancouver Stick Seminar, which recently was held for the 20th (!!!) time. Jim shares a little history, some retrospective, and some of the inspirations that have contributed to its evolution through the years. If you've ever met Jim, you know it's going to be a fun conversation...hope everyone enjoys it!

Great program folks. Jim is such a good-natured fellow, and he really puts the time in, practicing and writing music, as well as pulling off great seminars every year. A real community pillar.

Cheers!

Great episode!

Gene: thanks for the shout out! It was great meeting you and everyone else. What a blast! I still have my 10 string Osage Orange Stick, by the way.

Jim's hospitality is out of this world! This was my first Vancouver seminar, and first time to Canada, and Jim helped in any way he could. I felt like part of the group immediately.

If you're a beginner and wondering if you should attend a seminar, you should if you can. It's like an instant download of Stick information that will keep you busy for months afterwards. Not to mention it's hugely inspirational.

I attended Rob Martino's FredTap in Fredericksburg, VA, in 2009 after having my Stick for less than a year. I could barely play anything, but I learned so much in a short time and came away inspired and had plenty to work on. Greg and Steve were the instructors at the event, and as a beginner having access to people of that caliber is priceless.

Same thing with the Vancouver seminar. I had been without my Stick for most of this year and was incredibly out of practice when I got to the seminar. Jim lent me one of his Grand Sticks for the weekend, too. But there was just so much information and inspiration to be had, it was great. Being able to talk with Tom and Don, and everyone else, was priceless.

There really was a sense of camaraderie.

The only downside is that I came away from the seminar with Stick Fever after playing a Grand for the first time... and the only cure for Stick Fever is more Stick! Is that really a downside?

I hope to be able to make it to next year's Vancouver Seminar!

THAT, I have to see. Post photos if you can! I am kind of a hardwood Stick nerd and was unaware that Osage Orange was ever used.

YES...a Stick seminar that's mostly based on performance. I'm a fan of that model for sure. Mainly because I believe in "learning by doing".

Fun episode...makes me want to go back after 12 years. And maybe that will happen! My son has been accepted to the engineering school at the University of Victoria. He was going to attend this year but decided to take a year off. So unless his plans change again, I could be moving him out to Vancouver Island in August 2023. Might as well hang around for Gabriola up the coast!

Yes, apparently Emmett made two that I'm aware of. I happened to get lucky!

Not to derail the thread, but attached is a pic of the grain up close in the light of the setting sun. I'll send you a few more via email.
