Greg Howard is in hospice
Hello everyone, It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Greg Howard has entered hospice. He taught at my first seminar also his first seminar I think. I was a zero player and he took the time during lunch to give me some quick instruction so I at least knew what was going on. Over the years I studied with him numerous times in an around Vancouver, Canada. I sponsored a seminar that he taught at. He stayed at my house a number of times when I still lived in Seattle. He truly changed my life.
If you would like to thank him, please email him and include your number.

Wow. Words fail me too.
Such a vital force in the Stick community. So much knowledge. So much experience...

Re: Greg Howard is in hospice
Hoping the best for Greg...I hope he can come back in a normal life soon.
I have a friend who's an excellent piano player and about a year ago has been a victim of a temporal frontal degeneration. In few months it became impossible for him to be an independant person. He's now in an hospice. What's so strange about that is if he's in front of a piano, he can play like a god but out of this he's totally unable to deal with the normal things in life. My best wishes for both of them.

Re: Greg Howard is in hospice
I first met Greg in Vancouver at the first Stick Gathering there... I also met Matt Tate there as well. Greg has been my main teacher, friend and mentor all these many years... He has really taken me from ground zero to the player I am today... He was always so patient and kind... instilling confidence in me that I did not know I had... Over the hundreds of lessons I have had over 20 years, Greg helped me forge and find my own way, my own sound and encouraged me to "go for it"!!! There are many great Stick players around... but to my mind, Greg REALLY embodies all aspects of the instrument. From technique, approach, sound, mechanics and setup, there is no one who approaches that so completely.
Greg is also one of the kindest , most soft spoken cats you will ever meet. He never speaks a bad word about anyone and always seeks to elevate everyone he comes in contact with. The man has a deep spirit and deep regard for life... I am not only a better musician/Stickist, but I am also a better humanoid from rubbing shoulders with this man all these years... Deepest gratitude and Deepest Healing to you sir.

Heart-crushing news! Perhaps I've missed something but I was unaware he was in ill health.
What a fantastic musician, teacher, person.... I'm incredibly grateful to have spent time learning from him and hanging at the last Interlochen Stick Seminar in 2021.

Tell him that I'm thinking about him, and I'm sure the AFSTG guys are with me. He's a major part of my life, and had been incredibly helpful during my first years on the Stick.
