Sad news indeed.

The world is a poorer place for his passing.

May he rest in peace.

After hearing of Greg’s passing I had to sit down and have a little play.
I felt Greg’s spirit, his sincerity, his urgency, his powerful humility and I know it will always be so.
This may not be the time to say this but then, there’s only today…
I feel that I want to cherish this community even more, to learn from and support all the stick fam, wherever they are.

All my love goes out to Greg’s closer stick friends for their huge loss and to all of us.
Big love and my condolences to Greg’s family.

My condolences to Greg's family and friends, and to all you guys here who learned so much from him. I met Greg at the dutch Stick seminars. Amazing musician, and good guy.

A huge loss. The first 3 songs on Stick Figures showed many of us the beauty of the Stick as a solo instrument. The whole album is wonderful! Greg’s beautiful writing, arranging and playing are truly inspiring. He did more for the stick community than almost anyone except for Emmett and maybe a few others. A great composer, improviser and teacher! My prayers go out to Greg and his loved ones.

I'm really very sad. I'm entering that age where death is becoming more and more present, but this one especially hurts.

In the 80s and 90s I knew Chapman Stick mainly for his "bass side". When I heard Stick Figures somewhere in the depths of the internet in the late 90s I was stunned. It was then I think I decided that I had to have 'that thing'. It was then that a poor boy from a strange country started saving up for his first instrument. It came to me in early 2001 along with Emmett and Greg's books. I especially loved the latter. At a time when there was still no Youtube, telephoneinternet connections were tragic and the nearest Stickplayer lived a few hundred kilometres away from me, it really was a great help in my first independent steps. Without Greg's help I would never have started. Then I was able to buy all his albums and that was another source of inspiration. Not only was Greg a great educator or performer, he was also a brilliant composer. Songs like Charmed Life, Adrift, Blue Ridge and Finding Home are absolute gems.

I really regret that we never met. I regret that I never took Greg's private lessons. I regret never having seen him perform live. However, I would regret it even more if I couldn't, at least in these few words, thank him now for all that you have done for Chapman Stick. Thank you Greg. You left behind wonderful works and a void in many hearts.

RIP

This is sad sad news man.... Another talent gone way too early. Just about every stick player in the world was inspired by Greg's playing, music, seminars, and instructional material. Somewhere the guys preaching Free Hands in heaven!
