Post Re: Pondering Site Migration
Yeah, I really do like the idea of the home page having forum info, e.g., recent posts, most read, etc. I've been playing around with a portal approach, altering the core PHPBB forum app. I've been able to successfully migrate the database to a beta site and all info, users and user avatars were in place, cool!

But, when I worked on integrating this portal, http://www.board3.de/, it crashed on me; problems with talking to the database. Lots of mods to the code needed. So I wiped it all and now doing another fresh install and giving this portal a try, http://www.phpbb3portal.com/.

The goal is to keep and make a new portal template using the current one, then add a gallery into the forums itself. I throw up a link to the beta site once I get something up that's working and ready for tweaking.

I have a question about the "Youtube imbedding" I assume it means that the video
can be played from the thread instead of following a link right? And can we do that now? That would be a great improvement :)

And then just an observation; when we first started using the RSS feed
I didn't like it. i thought it changed the character of the forum to much. But then i got used to
to it. Now I can't imagine not having it. So change is inevitable. Do what works best
for you Manny and i am sure I speak for many when i say "We Love This Forum!".

Bison of the net let us move in grace.

Yep, the video will play in the post here as opposed to redirecting you to the YouTube site.

Yeppers, will be making sure that RSS is still a feature on the new version of this site, along with other features, like a built in Gallery.

Change --> evolution, which I hopefully will met the needs of our community and then some :)

For folks who have existing accounts on THIS SITE.

Can some folks head over to the beta site below and test out the database for me?

I want to know if you are able to log into your existing account and post.
Post into this thread if you can or can not.

[beta site URL removed]

There's still a lot of work to be done; just working on the architectural foundation for now. THANKS!

Excellent! Thanks for checking.
Now to install a Gallery and bridge it with the forum/portal app re: account login.

Thanks folks, good to see the database migrated over successfully in preparation for the final migration. OK, got that major problem worked out.

The beta site's about 75% done. Currently working on the gallery and porting the mods to the stickist theme, so that menu link doesn't work yet.

Take a looksee, any f/b appreciated, though post it here in case I wipe the beta site's database again.

It seems to be working fine Manny. Question ... will we need to use a different address to access the forum or will it be http://www.stickist.com? Also it seems some members are posting there and not here already! ;) That makes things a little confusing! :o
