RSS Filters
Thought I'd share this for other users who follow the Stickist Forum through an RSS feed. No offense to the guys who participate in the endless debates on gun control, etc. in The Lounge, but that's not why I participate in this forum. And since the stream of posts lately has a lot of activity in such topics, I started using a filter on the RSS feed. I use Google Reader and I'm using this filter, though I'm certain there are others that work just as well. https://spoi.com/software/rf/It's available in the Google Chrome store in you're a Chrome user. To remove a thread I don't care to see, I simply tell the filter to hide any posts that match words in the title. Took my Stickist RSS feed from looking like a political debate to one that's again focused on The Stick and music. Thought this may be of interest to someone else out there. Karma

Karma Is there a way to implement this same idea in tapatalk? PS, I think this subject belongs in the Site Status section....

Re: RSS Filters
Great tip Karma! I had started ignoring the lounge altogether, but yours is a better option

Re: RSS Filters
The Lounge's forum ID is "21" if you have the capability in your RSS feed reader to exclude specific subforums. No way to exclude specific subforums in Tapatalk, since it's just a front end forum reader.

Re: RSS Filters
That RSS filter doesn't work with Firefox Is there a way to hide specific threads when logged in?

Re: RSS Filters
Manny,
Would you list all the forum IDs? That way we could subscribe to just the ones we want. In my case, I'd subscribe to them all, have the Google news reader put them in their own folder and at least still have the off topic ones if/when I wanted to read them without them cluttering up everything.
I see there is only an over all RSS feed button and not individual ones per forum. If there were individual ones, that would take care of this as each one would obviously have the forum ID.
Thanks Russell

Re: RSS Filters
I use Bloglines for RSS reading and haven't really thought about filtering Stickist.com... but now when you're mentioning it I think I will look into that. Not a big deal with Bloglines though since that RSS reader has a two column web page design where all your feeds are listed in the thinner left column and the one you click on displays its content in the bigger right column. You can fast-scroll by the space bar and it takes about one quick glance to see what is worth reading. You're right that the majority of the posts these days are not Stick related and a lot are USA local as well Thanks for the hint, I'll check on filtering.

Thanks Russell On the Board Index page, mouse over the forum section or subforums. The ID number is right after the "=" displayed in the respective link.

Re: RSS Filters
Thanks Manny, I can't believe I missed that. Here are the numbers. Figured I'd post them The only problem I see is that 1. The names of the forum don't come over with the link. Everything shows up as "stickist.com" so you have to change the names in your reader. 2. For some reason, Google Reader can't connect to the Equipment link (f=4), yet when I put that link in Firefox, it comes up with no problem. thanks again, Russell Announcements feed.php?f=11Showcase feed.php?f=15Introductions feed.php?f=24Chapdoc feed.php?f=26Chapman Stick feed.php?f=2NS/Stick feed.php?f=7Equipment feed.php?f=4Stick Method feed.php?f=19Alternatives feed.php?f=27Polls feed.php?f=25Inspirations feed.php?f=14Websites feed.php?f=10Venues feed.php?f=20Classifieds feed.php?f=5Stolen Gear feed.php?f=23Teflon feed.php?f=17The Lounge feed.php?f=21Site feed.php?f=12

Re: RSS Filters
Thanks for posting this. I just checked and "Equipment" is in the feed. I also just checked, and when you click on RSS at the top of the page, it does display the feed with the subforum name and topic in the subject line. I think the display depends on the RSS reader used. Here's a sample of one topic; the last line, "title" has it there: Code:

Stickist.com

MattSteady

Introductions • Re: Hi! Finally got a stick.
I was also able to "disable" the feed from the "Lounge" subforum. Hopefully this disabling works; have various addons with this forum software.
