Re: Free For All
A local filmmaker made a mockumentary about the Charlottesville Spudnuts shop some time back. http://spudnutsshow.com/Don't be scared off by the insane web site -- it's a deliberate part of the presentation (you'll see once you watch the film). It's a little longer than most of the stuff you'll find on YouTube and Google Video, but it's also one of the funniest low-budget/local films I've ever seen.

Greg, you had me at "studio-quality, low-noise preamps"...

Re: Free For All
Anyone else out there growing vegetables? I've been doing this for about 6 or 7 years now.
This year corn, edamame, and all the various other beans seem to be doing really well, but are taking their time to produce. Tomatoes and potatoes not so great, but garlic, peas, carrots and onions all did well.
The Japanese beetles aren't so voracious or prodigious, and I haven't seen many flea beetles at all.
How is Françoise's garden, Olivier?

Re: Free For All
We grow our own vegies, and also have 4 prolific hens for a constant supply of eggs. Tomato plants have been our nemesis forever, even though we have the perfect Mediterranean climate. But when you get it right, there's nothing like a real tomato (not those anemic, tasteless things they sell in the big supermarkets).
Cheers, Andy

Cheers, Andy Hi Andy, Strange doings with tomatoes from all the folks I talk with around here. The big news this week is that black eyed peas and lima beans are starting to come in. Now if you love these in their frozen or canned variety, I can only say, grow some and cook them fresh, and you'll be truly amazed. I haven't made the commitment to the egg-laying hens yet. too easy to imagine the perfact vocal take ruined by a loud cluck (but there's that horse that's always kicking the barn already, so...)

Re: Free For All
Fresh black eyed peas - sounds lovely!
The hens are surprisingly quiet except when one of them is laying a monster-egg (we get some that won't fit in a regular egg carton). BTW, if anyone is wondering, you don't need a rooster around to get eggs...
Cheers, Andy

Re: Free For All
My duo partner Mark has a few Rhode Island reds, and they lay some really big eggs. They do have a couple of loud roosters, though.

Just to note that in less than 8 months since the Blue Screen of Death, this community has really recovered nicely and is exploding with activity.
We just crossed 6000 posts, and most of them have been really informative and/or very entertaining. This is a great forum and community. Thanks, Manny, and all the rest of you.
