Happy Birthday! Having only met you once, I cannot say anything profound. I can say that I appreciate this international community of musicians that is a result of your inventions. Anywhere I meet a Stick player, I generally meet a friend. Thanks for that. |

As I said on Greg's Facebook post: Thank you for making my and Jen's life together all the richer. How? 1) You created an instrument out of a groundbreaking technique. That instrument inspired some incredible music which still influences and inspires me. 2) Once I got one of your instruments, my vocabulary expanded and my music writing took a new turn. And I've been challenged like I've never been challenged in all my life. 3) Thanks to the community which has grown around your instruments, Jen and I have a whole new bunch of friends (more like family) whom we never would have met otherwise. And they're all such good people that it's as personally inspiring to spend time with them as it is musically. And we have more reasons to travel! 4) After last year's Free Hands Academy, Jen was inspired to re-awaken her long-dormant music desires, and get her own Stick, which (thanks to Steve Adelson and the Long Beach Jazz Fest) is now starting to see more action. And we will now be spending more time together with THAT. Lots of things happen out of one person's actions. Rarely does a person get to find out what those things are. I hope my very brief synopsis gives you (and everyone else) a glimpse. Jen and I wish you, Yuta, and the entire SE family all the very best. |
