I love the chorales of Bach. But IIRC he doesn't always keep the boundary between alto & tenor sacrosanct - in the name of voice leading he will cross the voices. Ditto for the 3 part sinfonias. Makes it harder to sight-read.

In my working out of Greensleaves it was also necessary, I felt, to cross the inner voices some, in order to keep the voice-leading working. Let's say, from Bmi7, one of whose voices is an A, to F#7, one of whose voices in an A#, Ted would have these two notes taken up by different voices in his arrangement. The old music school pedant in me can't handle that, so I changed it up, which necessitated voice crossing.

The arrangement is finally becoming easier to play... phew.
