I'm an unabashed Dylan freak and have been since I first heard him in 1965. To any who are also Dylan fans I would suggest you run out and read "Chronicles Volume One" if you already haven't. It's probably the closest thing we're ever gonna get to an autobiography from the man and an interesting look at his creative process.

Really interesting. A singer like Dylan (almost) cannot explain to the others what he wants to hear...he's just hoping that other musicicians will give him a beautiful feeling of the whole song. Maybe today it's not the same but I doubt about it.

Greg, you might like this one too. In the same vein (and sharing a few words) this is also an amazing thing to watch: http://www.amazon.com/Sympathy-Devil-Sean-Lynch/dp/B0000DC13U?tag=duckduckgo-osx-20It's the making of Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones. It's not freely available very often. Someone puts it on YouTube for a bit and it gets taken down quickly. I've seen it and it's wonderful to see them go through all the takes before they do the one we all know. It's obvious that Mick is not into many of the concepts at first. He looks totally bored and withdrawn for a long time and is sitting down. By the end, when it's coming together, he's standing up and putting himself into the tune. I'm an old history teacher and this is just gold to me. -Eric

I have some pals that are really into Dylan, and I feel somewhat guilty when I say " I just don't get it".......like I've missed out on a great party that I wasn't invited to. Same goes for the Grateful Dead, or Leonard Cohen.......is there a kool-aid injection that I forgot to take that makes one fall in puppy love with these artists? 3/4's of me thinks its cult of personality, 1/4 thinks maybe they're onto to something my brain isn't evolved enough to comprehend and enjoy.....
Back to my Katy Perry mixed tape....
cheers, Cherry Garcia

Maybe I was born too late.....
Another analogy is these teenagers who wear the Che Guevera t-shirts. I'd be willing to bet 95% don't know who he was, but somewhere along the lines somebody told them that hes a cool freedom fighter that should be revered and you need to wear the shirt to be in the cool club.
cheers, kev
