Such a great idea Glen. I think that 'the story' is almost always true if not a rule behind composing original tunes. Writing it down gives some solidity to the story the way that a song becomes more firm
in a sense when it is recorded.
Taking up the idea of writing it down is a little tuff for me though because, aside from being more work
the songs keep changing and therefore new stories emerge.
What has happened over time, because I have a love hate relationship with 'teachers' is that I have changed that word 'teacher' to "inspirer". So instead of seeing Greg or Bob or Don or
Emmett as teachers they are my inspiration (everybody does that right?) but I have composed
songs for each person and along with that each song has a story or lots of stories to go with them
...
I might like to try the idea of writing as a helpful tool to get songs recorded.
