Post RIP Bowie
I can't possibly say how any dozens of times I listened to Hunky Dory, Space Oddity, Ziggy Stardust, Scary Monsters, The Man Who Sold the World, etc, etc.

I had the great pleasure of seeing the Serious Moonlight tour in 1984, I think.

Huge influence on me, and so many.

69 is too young.

The most strange thing is that I was reading a couple of days ago he released a new cd. R.I.P. David Bowie.

Very sad- a true genius. One of our posters Eric Anthony got to meet David in a very private setting- said he was a true gentlemen, dressed to the 9's, eloquent, and extremely bright. Eric told me he kept a notebook handy, would say "excuse me" in the middle of a conversation, and write ideas down.

I met and keep in touch with SpookyGhost, Gerry Leonard, David's New guitarist. They just released a new album. He is currently in the studio with Suzanne Vega.

My high shoool band played Rebel, Rebel and Suffragette City, messed around with the opening to Ziggy Stardust. My first true album was Alladin Sane (A Lad Insane)- still an amazing album with Mike Garson's inspired piano playing throughout. Panic in Detroit, Cracked Actor, Jean Genie.

A BBC documentary I saw quoted David that he saw The Exploding Plastic Inevitable- Andy Warhol's music experience that combined for the first time multi media with rock, ne The Velvet Underground, and that David was so impressed, he went back to England with ideas that found formation in the Glam Movement and his stage shows.

Even if you didn't listen ( you still can) to all his phases "Heroes' was a collaboration with Eno, you can take away that he was a true original and stayed true to his ideas and concepts. The result was imaginative timeless music which will live on way past today.

God Bless you David Bowie for all the inspiration and courage.

Wow what a loss. His last album blackstar is amazing I cut my teeth with his last band leader Donny McCaslin at Berklee we used to shed Metheny and steps ahead tunes. I was looking forward to the tour. Did he announce that he was ill?

Awful! Didn't see this coming at all! Like many have already said, this guy was an enormous influence on me. During a phase where I was doing a whole lot of recording I recall taking a lot of influence from records like "Low" and "Heroes". Used to love to pick up an acoustic and play pretty much all of the tunes on "Hunky Dory" as well.

But we still have his catalog which really is timeless and still plays like new creative music. He was one of the few who managed to marry artistic success and respect with widespread commercial success and appeal. That is a rarity but then again, so was Bowie.

Truly one of a kind.

Alain,

I like that one, too. Bowie re-recorded the song on his latest album, "Blackstar." It has more of a driving feel. I really love the drum n' bass feel of the tune, backed by a dark jazz ensemble. Really incredible.
