Post subject:  Best Rock Anthems/Drinking Songs/Sing-alongs

I was making a casual comparison in my Saturday Fractal posting "Real Good Time"/Sisyphus' Rock (which started as a drinking song), to great sports anthems. The first one I could name was Jack White's 7-Nation Army, then remembered Queen.

So in my long running segment of "What's your best 3 X?" (I think 3 times now!), what are the 3 best anthems, or drinking songs, or songs that several thousand people will all join together in singing as soon as a sufficient critical mass of people start singing (or until the mascot/cheerleader starts them off)?

I'm keeping the parameters of "1000s of people singing together" very vague and I'll include Tubbawumpa or whatever drinking songs or patriotic songs or even that special night at the Stones were everyone sang along and Mick shut up. But the criteria is 3 best, not your favorite or popular. What has that magic mojo that gets sports fans to shamelessly rip off these riffs and taunt the other side with music? (What an odd use of music when I put it like that!)

These are the 3 best in my very biased, subjective, and absolutely right opinion: 8-)
    1. Queen, "We are the Champions/We Will Rock You."
    2. Jack White, 7-Nation Army
    3. Just for fun: Handel, Hallelujah Chorus
    4. Star Spangled Banner AND Oh Canada because I've lived in both countries and both songs are pretty good to get the old jingoistic blood flowing.

What's yours? Oh, and include a video if you have a favorite.
Here's Queen:

Edited to change title to be a little more descriptive.

Last one is a shameless plug of my old band playing the Polish national anthem in Poland...

Alan! Two words:  and  !!! No, just kidding, but I love Metallica. I saw them at Monsters of Rock with Van Halen, Scorpions, Ac/DC, Kingdom Come, and Pantera in Kansas City on And Justice For all. Good times, but I was there to see everybody BUT Metallica at the time. I was blown away and have been a fan ever since (although frankly not so much after St. Anger or so).

I loved the Polish anthem--nice harmonic goodness. You guys rocked that place out! I'm not sure what it was supposed to sound like but the metal version was awesome. The crowds singing along is EXACTLY the vibe is was getting at with this posting. Killer, man, thanks!

Kevin, I've never heard this before! Certainly a drinking song to be sung along to!

Great video, too! I loved the accordion, but especially the flute solo! That was awesome in it's own right! Mom played accordion and rocked it out at every church service and we'd all sing along. Takes me back....

Some nice folk-rocksy goodness! I could see pounding a Labatt's (starts instant flame war over Canadian beer) or twelve to this song with the lads after a football (soccer!) game or two.

"Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale" is a good background for this--can't speak for the beer. Nice slightly-bluesy rocking little tune.

The key to a good drinking song is the chorus. This one's got a good one. Also keying in on "Saturday Night" is a good point as well. That's probably got 70% of the drinking situations, with leaving "Friday" for other songs to rock on about.

I've got a grand theory about selling out and it involves writing songs specifically for beer commercials and also specifically doing a Holiday Song. You can't go wrong with a holiday song, and it's instant money every time that holiday rolls around: Adam Samberg's Turkey Song is a great example. He keeps updating every few years with new Jewish celebrities and makes $$$$. This is fodder for another whole series: what you're favorite sellout/commercial jingle or music used to sell something that you still love?

But for now, what's your best sing-along anthem drinking song--anything that's got a bunch of people all singing loudly together at the top of their lungs?
