bachdois wrote: Have any of you guys listened to Beethoven's late string quartets? The set up to an old music joke... Have you heard Beethoven's last quartets? Neither has he! Which was brilliantly expanded by Sir Thomas Beecham- apparently not a big fan of Ludwig's music; "well Beethoven's last quartets were written by a deaf man... and in my opinion should only be listened to by a deaf man..."

Twice now I've performed Terry Reilly's "In C'. The first time was in 2000 with an all-star electronic music ensemble in New York City for Lincoln Center's summer festival, which included Bob Moog, Lydia Kavina, Don Buchla, Nyle Steiner, Pauline Oliveros and many others... The second time was with 12 other Stick players in an art gallery in Kamloops, BC. I'm feeling the itch to do it again.... really fun...

I love Penderecki. Not party music.
K One of my favorites, and this one most definitely IS party music

Bernstein conducting Mahler 9, adagio.
This piece probably best sums up for me, the impending doom of the century just passed, as Bernstein was referring to in his lectures.
I am very interested in the historical context of leaving impressionism behind and how things changed into the 20th C. God is dead and the like...

This is the lecture which I'm sure many of you must have seen.
Being at Uni, I feel that Bernstein has been like an elder brother to me, seeding my mind.

Not trying to be such a big Frank fan but I am . I thought I would throw this into the mix: I tried to set it up at the right time for "Pound For A Brown" which starts at 1:11 & 00 seconds, but it is all interesting ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCSbucdVEkg jRj *j* .~

Re: Favorite classical compositions and composers?
Yet another great thread on Stickist. In my view, Antonio was Venice's rock musician. But so many of his works are performed like poodle music ... sit up and beg! And then I heard this version by Marcon and I was amazed at the interpretation. Surely it's what Vivaldi intended? Four Seasons with gusto, highly recommended: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000CD5H1Don't be fooled by the $6... crank it up and enjoy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
