I love this.

Ira Glass is the best. His field of study was semiotics at Brown University. Incidentally he's the cousin of Philip Glass.

It's spot on inspiration. I love how he admits he doesn't know anyone that has taken longer than he has to do what he does well - I am pretty certain many Stick players can attest to that.

I agree all the way. I was dispappointed about my playing lately and for a month I almost didn't touch my stick. Ok, I had many things to do out of practicing my beautiful instrument but I felt it was an excuse at the same time not touching it. This small video will help me to come back and be realistic about the fact that I play for only 5 years vs 46 years on guitar...lol.

Gene, this was so very, very inspirational! Thank you for posting this. You gotta go through a lot of sucking before you can get to rocking, so the sooner you suck, and the harder you suck, the more awesome the rock that will come. (I need to work on that Sink's Law, I admit: the best one I got so far is the not very profound: Excellence in anything equals time spent on it.)

Every writer is supposed to burn any poetry written before the age of 16. (An old grad school joke, anyway). Since I started playing music on my 16th birthday, I guess it's all good! (Shudders at the thought of that early stuff ever being listened to.)

No promises, though, that I'm through the sucking stage and onto the rocking yet! Definitely not there on Stick yet! :D Thanks, again, Gene! You definitely rock!

I just started telling my drum students this. It's such good advice and great to have in a quick vid.

Thanks a bunch GP!

True that. I've gone thru what he speaks about maybe 5 or 6 major times in my life. Each one makes the next one - maybe not easier - but more surely accomplished with a predictable outcome. It's not a mystery any more. It's a known process. One can accomplish things. And I'm going thru it now in the form of a major wrestling match with Stick. Fun tho, cause I know it's gonna turn out well.
