Why does Fripp sit down? And more to the point why do I care? lol

Pretty cool. I have never really dug into King Crimson, but slowly but surely I am gaining a taste for it...

What a deep groove. Tony's bass line is amazing.... the way he plays with the meter etc.

he has always played that way - even back in the original KC days in late 60s I think

The sitting down is fine. In 95 I went to see the double trio. It was the first time my wife was seeing them and I'd talked Fripp up as a guitarist. Well ... that year he decided that there was too much attention focused on him and not enough on the band so he sat off stage in the dark.

At that point I'd felt like he'd finally lost what was left of his marbles. Plus, as the concert was letting out, that was pretty much the only thing I heard people talking about so his attempts to shift focus actually had the opposite effect.

Still loved the show though.

my first roommate after I got out of high school back in 1988 had the KC in Japan 1984 VHS tape and that's when I first saw the Stick and really got into KC.

T.L. pushed me over the edge to buy my first Chapman Stick. The "John Wetton" Crimson took me back over the edge from "intellectual jazz" to "breaking bass strings" muscular...rock? What the hell were they doing in that band before Fripp broke it up calling it a "dinosaur"? After Bruford had quit YES and Jamie Muir joined a monastery?

Ok Scott this should be a PM but yr Stick playing is getting muscular (good in my vocabulary) and you should check out K.C. Larks Tongue, Starless, Red, and the live box set (can't remember the name) sorry but that band puts Rush in the hamper. (Oh am I gonna get hate mail...)
