Fell on Black Days -- Chris Cornell
Another one of my personal favorite musicians, Chris Cornell, died last night after a show here in Detroit, apparently by suicide, at the age of 52. His voice and talents were unique and he will be missed.
yes this sucked. I listened to a lot of Soundgarden in my youth, and still do to the days (was listening to Slaves and Bulldozers just yesterday as a matter of fact).
*sigh*
At least Roger Ailes died today so I don't feel all bad...

I'm 59 some of my music has been described by my friends as sounding like Soundgarden as i've never listened to them when my buddy came up to me and told me Chris had died and i didn't know who he was talking about I told him "All our heros are dying". It's been happening since I was eleven with Hendrix and Allman IT SUCKS KEEP THE MUSIC GOING IT DOESNT HAVE TO MAKE SENSE

Re: Fell on Black Days -- Chris Cornell
I learned of this from Luc on FB, which I rarely visit anymore. He also had 5 solo albums, very talented. What I hear from my friend Yogi was that he was a genuinely a professional who took his craft very seriously.
Perhaps the most important thing I learned from him was how to interpret lyrics. He never felt compelled to lay out the exact meaning of a song - they didn't need to have a literal interpretation - the meaning, coupled with the music, can be interpreted differently by each person that hears it.
Superunknown is one of my desert island classics for certain. People try to tuck it nicely into "grunge" or the "Seattle sound", but to me, it was just appealing music. I remember where I was when I heard My Wave and I knew I was going to enjoy hearing the entire album.
The next big question is, will they find another singer or was he too epic to replace?

I could not imagine SG playing with anyone but him...A truly big loss to the music world...let alone the pain and grief his family and friends must be feeling.
Badmotorfinger was always my favoriet SG album, but just today I went on a long run and listened to most of Superunknown...and I must say I think it's their best album by far
Here is an amazing acoustic version of Like Suicide...not posted due to any connections with what possibly may have happened to him - it's alway been on of my favorite SG songs (the full instrumental one and this version):
and the lyrics are so classic Chris Cornell
Heard it from another room Eyes were making up just to fall asleep Love's like suicide Dazed out in a garden bed With a broken neck lays my broken gift Just like suicide
And my last ditch Was my last brick Lent to finish her, finish her
She lived like a murder How she'd fly so sweetly She lived like a murder But she died just like suicide
Bit down on the bullet now I had a taste so sour I had to think of something sweet Love's like suicide
Safe outside my gilded cage With an ounce of pain I wield a ton of rage Just like suicide
With eyes of blood And bitter blue How I feel for you I feel for you
She lived like a murder How she'd fly so sweetly She lived like a murder But she died just like suicide
Yeah And my last ditch Was my last brick Lent to finish her finish her
With eyes of blood and bitter blue How I feel for you I feel for you I feel for you
I feel for you I feel, oh I feel for you
Ah ah yeah (I feel, I feel)
She lived like a murder How she'd fly so sweetly She lived like a murder But she died just like suicide

I remember the first time I saw them was at Lollapalooza #2 down outside Houston (and what a lineup - Soundgarden, Ministry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the machine...)
And they were playing Jesus Christ Pose (awesome tune!) - Cornell was standing on top of a giant stack of amps...they sun was setting behind him, his hair was blowing in the breeze, screeching and screaming like only he can - and my "vitamins" were really kicking in! (the good old days) - man! It is an image burned into my mind.
Sad to think I will never get to see him play again.

Soundgarden, Audioslave and Chris Cornell were a big influence on me. I am very, very sad to hear about his passing.
One of my favourite Chris Cornell works (Although everything he did was pretty much my favourite)
