Losing too many of the greats! Man I grew up listening to his music I think I had "Don't do me like that" on 45!!! Does anyone even know what that is these days?

He and the boys did a fantastic job at superbowl in 2008, probably one of the better performances for that over-hyped venue. God Bless his family, friends and fans! RIP

Wait!

According the NY Times, CBS' report of death was erroneous and premature:

He might still be alive.

As of 2 hours ago he was off life support but clinging to life with a DNR signed by his wife.

Jim Morrison not so much.

I respected him a lot. He was just saying he wanted to get off the road and spend more time with his grand daughter. Can you imagine how cool it would be to have Tom Petty as a grandfather!

I also appreciated that he had an opinion and that he respected others opinions. We're going to miss him.

What Kev said, RIP. I love Tom's tunes, and I play/have played a shwack of 'em. Tom definitely had the "spirit of rock and roll" in my opinion...
"Mary Jane's Last Dance" is one of my favourites... but I find myself listening to an entire album at least once a week... I will definitely miss that he would drop some new tunes on us pretty regularly...

I was around him a bunch in the late 70s/early 80s when I worked with Leon Russell (another crushing recent loss) because Tom was on Leon's label Shelter Records. Always friendly, mellow and funny. Another great musical voice is gone.
