"Bending Light" - Inspired by Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays
I recently released a piece entitled "Bending Light" which was inspired by Pat Metheny and the late, great Lyle Mays. In particular, I was inspired by their masterpiece, "The Way Up." I was fortunate enough to see them perform the album in its entirety. The instrumentation for Bending Light includes piano, drums (Zendrum), with the sax and bass performed on LinnStrument. I am working up a shorter solo Stick version as well. http://jeremycubert.bandcamp.com/track/bending-light

Really nice!! I can see how the piece was built upon a simple melody much like “the way up” was. However, arranged and developed very differently. I would love to hear this with a real drummer.
Excellent composing as usual!!

Thanks very much, Brett and Greg! I am continuing to work on the piece and hope to play it with a band of actual musicians!

Re: "Bending Light" - Inspired by Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays
Immersion in warm water is what I felt, as when I used to listen to John Coltrane's quartet. Many moods within the genre, strange but consonant harmonies, and the Zendrum is indeed live and extremely well played.
I just let the water wash over me without analyzing the droplets.
Congratulations Jeremy!

Beautiful composition, Jeremy, and wonderfully produced, too! A feast for the ears.

Jeremy!
That was pretty wild and beautiful at the same time. Such a wonderful thing to do at this time of losing Lyle Mays.

Re: "Bending Light" - Inspired by Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays
Thanks to everyone for incredibly kind words.
I wrote the piece several months ago before I knew that Lyle was ill. I had just listened to "The Way Up" - the last PMG album.
I was introduced to Pat & Lyle's music when I was 14 and someone lent me a cassette tape (I am dating myself) of American Garage. They taught me the importance of melody and space in the world of jazz fusion which can tend towards chops and density.
