Re: New Opeth album
Quote: edit: I have succeeded in making a Death Metal thread on here. Haha! I'll help to continue it Bloodbath is definitely one of my fave death metal band. I'm not fond of these new bands, preferring the former one from Sweden and Florida who appeared in the late 80's and 90's but Bloodbath is reinventing that very style 30 years later.

Re: New Opeth album
If you dig Floridian death metal, check out Aeon. They're actually from sweden, but their first album pretty much sounds like Deicide + Morbid Angel divided by Cannibal Corpse.

Re: New Opeth album
Deicide... lame.
I never got into the Florida thing. I suppose Death is OK, and Cynic isn't really what I'd call death metal.
I'm more of a Watchtower guy, myself... and although I can't stand the guy who sings on the Control and Resistance album, I dig the guy on their first demo.
And Necrophagist slays them all, straight up.

Hammer Gristle, Matricide, and Abscess come close, but for good ol' misery, I'd have to bow to Einsatzgruppen.

Quote: you need Obscura. Its way more interesting. I respectfully disagree. Statistically speaking, it's not even close. But I do like them OK. Ever heard Confessor? Loincloth? Breadwinner? Kev

Re: New Opeth album
Pale Communion, Opeth latest album, is out for one month now. What do stickists think about it?

It's the kind of material that I think will make more sense when I hear it in a live context. And that's coming from a guy who loved Heritage and saw them three times on their last tour(s)

Re: New Opeth album
I absolutely love it - listened to it about a dozen times now. The songs develop very effectively, all of them building to a satisfying conclusion - it's a more cohesive and focused album than Heritage (which I still liked). The production is quite stunning as well - Steven Wilson continues to do phenomenal mixing work, allowing a lot of dynamic range, balance and detail (particularly that grinding Hammond organ).

Re: New Opeth album
Alright here is the oldschool hardcore fan guy talking....
So I only like early opeth, first 2 or 3 lps. I can't listen now but at the time they were prog masterworks. I hate new opeth AHHH, and I have seen them live twice. I wonder if it is fashionable to hate on their new stuff. Oh well, the proggy parts are cool still. Just lost the real aggressive/occult vibe. The old bassist was way doper too, just to throw that in there.
See the thing with metal and me is it's gotta be over the top extreme. In some regard or another. Even new emperor is too weak for me, even though the music is still good. I need the cray cray U know?
