Well I just saw two sets back to back and got meet the man himself. Such a sweet guy and man, what a beast! My face was melting when they played Wes's "Full House."

I mentioned Steve to make the connection that I play Stick. He said he loves the Stick and thinks it's a beautiful instrument.

I've been reading a bit about Mr. Martino and I was amazed by one part of his life. In 1980 he had a brain aneurism that almost killed him. He survived the surgery to correct it but it affected his memory. He actually forgot how to play the guitar. With the help of family, friends, and his old recordings, he learned to play all over again. Can you imagine?

I don't think I'll ever whine about starting to play the Stick later in life again.

I spent time with Pat before and after his aneurism. It was an amazing progression of events. After the operation he basically forgot everything in his life. The growth and confidence he regained has been remarkable.
I hope to play some duets with him sometime soon. Maybe at NAMM in January? Pat is a major player and influence

Soooo Steve… you never really commented on what you think of applying Pat's guitar theory to Stick.

I haven't spent much time with it since first looking at it but at first glance the fretboard symmetry angle (sorry) seems like it could play nice with the Stick. Going to look a little more closely as soon as I get the chance.

My last conversation with Pat was probably 4 or 5 years ago, in an airport (LAX). At that time, he told me he had over 900 pages of these diagrams and texts. He's a very scientific person,with immaculate penmanship, and a deep thirst for exploration. This discussion is enough motivation to reconnect with his musical ideas and hopefully much more.

This thread got me motivated. I spoke to Pat today and we now plan on getting together after the holidays to see what kind of creative music we can make together. He said he was inspired by the possibilies of combining our individual styles. I echo that with great enthusiasm. This will be a treat and a situation I greatly look forward to.
