Greg
I am really getting into Liquid Tension lately (watched every one I can find) and combine that with Soup By Stick Men and Tony Levin in Stick Man (CD's that I just purchased) - such great playing. Oh - and for you (us) old timers ;<) Free Hand by Gentle Giant.

Re: Liquid Tension Acid Rain
I remember when these first LTE came out and I was just in utter awe of all of the musicians. It was the first time I had ever heard Jordan Rudess play and then to have him join DT made it all the better. I remember listening to the "bass" on that track and not being able to figure out how the heck Tony Levin was able to do what he was doing. A few years down the line I discover the Stick and it all makes sense

I was at first offended (in a fun way) being referred to as an old timer. I grew up on gentle giant. I came to terms with it after realizing I couldn't even BE upside down for 720 SECONDS doing absolutely nothing without stroking out.

Re: Liquid Tension Acid Rain
If someone stumbles across this and wants to cut to the chase go to 3:07... Tony gets about 15 seconds but good seconds they are . .*j* ..~

Liquid Tension Acid Rain
Just a couple weeks until Crimson Projekct opens for DT in Minneapolis. I can honestly say I bought the tickets because of the opening act.

Re: Liquid Tension Acid Rain
This has all the bits of Dream Theater that I love and none of parts I dislike (singer). Although I respect TL a ton, his stock goes way up for being able to hang, on a technical level, with these guys. Most of the projects he plays in do not perform at 100mph for the whole song.
I think Gentle Giant were more well rounded players though maybe not as technically proficient. Hard to compare Liquid Tension to Gentle Giant. Kinda of like comparing two smokin hot women. Win win.

I agree, I just bought Gentle Giant to remind me from where Progressive Rock grew out of. The vocal arrangement's on Free Hand were very creative. At present I am practicing drums to Liquid Tensions "Paradigm Shift". That song is in HIGH gear and fun to play drums to.

Re: Liquid Tension Acid Rain
LTE was my introduction to the Stick. I hadn't heard of it until the LTE albums first came out.
I love LTE and everything they do, but I do wish Levin was a little louder in the mix here. Most of the time you can barely hear him. It's kind of frustrating seeing his fingers flying like crazy at all the intricate riffs, yet barely hearing the end result.
