Post "Odd Poetry"/ thanks Per
Hey all,
Ever since Per Boysen posted his "Today's duo with an Oud & Flamenco Guitar" in SHOWCASE, I have been very inspired to investigate the Oud and the possible purchase of one. His Stick playing is definitely worthy of attention also.

So I have mentioned my interest to a few friends and have shared Per's song and some other video examples of Oud playing with them. This moring my friend Mike sent me this video. I thought I would share it here. This reminds me more of Chick Korea accoustic band rather than middle eastern or egyptian music, but it is smokin'. I think he is also doing some improv singing in the middle somewhere. I hope someone finds this enjoyable.

Mike

I just love this guy. I like even more the musicians he's playing with, especially Eivind Aarset whose music still has a huge influence on me.

King of the stage and he owns the music. "Youself" must be a Leo - not with the hands, not with the head, but with the heart. He lives it.

And the pianist, immersed in McCoy Tyners quartal harmonic structures (and escapes therefrom) becomes an animal at his row of keys.

The drummer keeps the discipline of that strange folk rhythm, and with abandon.

What an emotional jazz rendition! Many thanks Mike, for a Wednesday morning transfusion..

Middle Eastern Jazz Fusion, I'm in love!
...And who doesn't love an Oud?!
Wow, thanks for expanding my horizons!
