Post Never get over ...
I don't think, as long as I live, that I'll ever get over Allan Holdsworth's "Endomorph" (from the Secrets album). I first heard it in 1989 and I continued to be floored by it every time I hear it.
I get a similar experience when I hear "House of Mirrors" from Hard Hat Area.

Right with you there with this Alan H track.

leading tones...... pedals....... Actually just fucking amazing colours, what can you say about it?

Alana H and Miles are my desert island people.

 I wonder what the 'thing' is? :|

Why is this; that a song, or just a portion of it can evoke such unique emotions? (Or not!)

Someone might say "I don't get what it is that you like about that song(?)".

And yet you know, and because you do, it doesn't matter that someone else my not...

So,
Peter gabriel: "The Humdrum".
Captain Beefheart: "Alice In Blunderland".
John McLaughlin: "Follow Your Heart".
Joni Mitchell: "Two Grey Rooms".

I realize that all of these songs have corny parts (except for "Follow Your Heart" which is essentially perfect ;) ) but I have come to believe or understand that brilliant song writers
use passages like that to enhance the truly elevated passages by contrast :geek: ...

Funny..."Humdrum" is another one of those songs for me, too...for some reason which I can't explain, the second half of it has ALWAYS struck me. I actually heard the Plays Live version of it first and that's the one I "imprinted" on, though I do love the original studio version.
So much Gabriel ... sigh ...

Jumping in on this topic, for me it's

Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended As Lovers
Jeff Beck - Angel (Footsteps)
Harold Budd - The Room of Ancillary Dreams
Art Of Noise - On Being Blue
Zero 7 - Destiny

Probably a billion more bits and pieces of a million other songs as well.

For me, it's the instrumental cut of "Bold as Love" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. I've never heard a better explanation of why someone would want to play rock 'n' roll music than that song.

Thank you guys, I bought the "Secrets" cd really great, amazing.

If you guys love songs that "get" you, you should really check out the band "Advent"

Their cd "Cantus Firmus" has a few songs which have touched me deeply.

Alan Benjamin guitarist/stickist is a member here and a great guy.

check out the song "Parenting parents" OMG what music........

I had the great pleasure to play with Advent for a few short weeks ......and being able to play this and other songs with them was a real highlight of my musical life.

some of the greatest music I've ever heard i highly recommend checking it out.

Brett

Oh, man. If "Endomorph" is the last cut on that album, I love that one, too. Gives me the chills.

Brett, I like "Cantus Firmus", too.

For music that will change your life, I highly recommend Alan Stivell's "Journee le Maison". Incredibly beautiful.
