Re: Favorite guitar solos
OK Too many to list but here's few..........
Although not a bass player, the first bass break that sticks out in my memory is from Paul Simon's 'You can call me Al'. I think it was origionally played on the album by Bakithi Kumalo.
All of Tommy Emmanuel's work. Impossible to pick just one.
Sharp Dressed Man, Billy Gibbons.
All along the Watchtower, Jimmy Hendrix.
I'll stop there.
Eric

Re: Favorite guitar solos
Personally, Guthrie Govan's solo on Steven Wilson's new album in "The Watchmaker" was mind blowing. Most tasteful shredding I've heard in a long time.

Re: Favorite guitar solos
Joe Satriani - "Love Thing" (although anything he ever did qualifies). Eric Johnson - "Desert Rose" Gary Moore - "Still Got The Blues" Steve Morse - "Highland Wedding" Steve Vai - "For The Love of God" Joe Walsh and Don Felder - "Hotel California" Eddie Van Halen - "Eruption" David Gilmour - "Time" Eric Clapton - "I Wish it Would Rain" Mark Knopfler - "Sultans of Swing" Jeff Beck - "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" Randy Rhoads - "Mr. Crowley" Warren Cucurrulo (Duran Duran) - "Ordinary World" (funny guy to list amongst these people, but this solo just goosebumps me every time). Allan Holdsworth - "Red Alert" Pierre Bensusan - "Quatre Heures Du Matin" Micheal Hedges - "Ragamuffin" John Petrucci - "Another Day" John Williams - Rodrigo's "Concerto de Aranjuez". (Not a "guitar solo", but rather my favorite guitar and orchestra concerto.

Re: Favorite guitar solos
Ooh, Eric Johnson & Steve Morse...good choices.
Is it too late to add? LOL! How about Vernon Reid's solo on "This is the Life" from Living Colour's "Time's Up" album...for that matter, his solo in "Information Overload" - what a mind-scramble. (And thus totally perfect for the song.)

Re: Favorite guitar solos
YES - "owner of a lonely heart" (from"90125") Gary Moore -"Empty Rooms" (not sure what year - somewhere in the 80's) Nik Kershaw - "Roses" - amazingly talented composer and also a very underrated guitar player sorry - it's all from the 80s

Re: Favorite guitar solos
I'd add the Guthrie Govan solo on "Drive Home", also from the Steven Wilson "The Raven That Refused To Sing" album. Guitar as human voice... Beautiful!

Re: Favorite guitar solos
I have indeed heard the aristocrats. I've heard each of them separately live too. Dethklok/bass clinic with Bryan and when SW came to Minneapolis with Guthrie and Marco. Now only to see them as a whole gang!

Re: Favorite guitar solos
One of my favorite solo guitar pieces. Not the best audio, but a pretty good performance of Hand's Study 2.
