Back to cynic, I guess maybe I'd like em more if they had changed the name. I mean fans expect a certain style from a band. I don't even need to list examples of bands that change/experiement into the worst band of all time.

But the best example of a band that has total freedom to explore/innovate yet always staying 'true' and giving up the goods is PRIMUS. And in the process they did not alienate any fans, and showed that being yourself is the only way to go. Now even if you hate primus vox or even their style altogher, its just the point im making. Frizze fry and brown album, though years apart and differing quite greatly still pleases me. Id actually like to hear why a fan could hate primus now, hmm maybe cause they improvise at shows like manics could be a turn off. A lame turn off at that tho haha. Well I guess he is a bit less technical these days on ze bass but still, he is a demon wizard for sure

Why dont we friggin collaborate man, we both have good taste. Does any style in particular intrigue you at the moment? I'm doing over the top emotional 80's cocaine fueled MIDI guitar looping, and then looping silly technical stick on top. ITs like if madonna got a stick and went insane. Samples soon....Im also doing solo stick sets with WAY over the fx and looping, pretty messed up I think haha.

We certainly should, but I'm always lacking time
I used to play some jazz a few years ago on the Stick, but totally gave up. I'm really digging a blend between metal, pop, shoegaze and black metal some bands are playing now, such as Alcest (I guess this french band has some recognition worldwide since the last album) :

The next album is being recorded and it will probably be a nice one, recorded in Iceland with a strings quartet if I remember well.

Another band I'm into these days is a kind of Alcest twin, sharing some musicians from that one :

But... I'm still behind, after all these years, this incredible norwegian band, Ulver. Indeed, a bit arty, but they are producing such a moving music that I sometimes can't listen to it. I attended a show in Paris and it was the best show ever I could see/listen. A DVD were recorded during this tour, which is definitely a must have :o

My favorite version of Cynic was where they hadn't yet added in the vocoder vocals. Here's a demo version of Uroboric Forms with only death metal vocals throughout:

Both of Asphyx's post reunion albums are amazing. I discovered them via all the promotion before Deathhammer came out. I knew Martin Van Drunen from Hail of Bullets, but when I picked up Death, The Brutal way, i was blown away. Should have figured, cause anything else Martin Van Drunen is on is awesome.

Check out braindrill for insane riffing, behold for prog instrumental metal, ummm need to think...

I was never too sold on Braindrill. I Always thought Origin did the "Holy crap its intense!" technical riffing better.
