Aaaaahhh... If that last one was too fusion for ya, I happen to really dig this.

I lived in Perth while these guys were coming up, exciting to see them on the world stage as brothers in the music continuum.

Troy Roberts, Dane Alderson, Tim Jago and Andy Fisenden (drummer previous vid).

Anything at all on he ECM label does it for me, the latest being Something, Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette live 2009. I don't know if my Jarrett collection has reached 100 yet :D

While Pat Metheny is not my favorite guitarist, his latest Tap, John Zorn's Book of Angels Vol. 20 is absolutely fantastic.

Black Sabbath's 13 is to die for, OOPS, wait a minute, misplaced in this thread

I am with Brett on that last comment, this is a very satisfying thread. My friend Navid turned me on to this Lebaneses cat Ibrahim Maalouf.

http://www.npr.org/2013/03/31/175598222/bridging-arabic-and-western-music-with-an-unusual-instrument

He has one foot firmly planted in straight up traditional jazz and the other in traditional Arabic music. The guy tricked out his trumpet with an additional valve so he can hit all the makams in between - visionary.

Wow, Romain Collin Trio was great - thanks for the recommendation, Kev! Reminds me a bit of Chick Corea's album Leprechaun that I bought by its release -76 and listened to lot for the coming years. ANd yes, Matheney is big fav of mine too; I listened a lot to his early works and a bit into the eighties (I even had a quartet playing similar style music in those days, but we used two guitars and no keyboards). I'd like to chime in with the recommendation of EST. Unfortunately Esbjörn died a few years ago in a scuba diving accident but the recordings are spinning on... and his trio bass player now has this also great band called Tonbruket http://www.tonbruket.com/. One taste in music that think I will never get bored with is the "the ECM vibe". I totally trust Manfred Eicher on every new releas knowing there's about 99 percent chance I will just love it.

Awesome recommendations, all. And fantastic videos. Trying to take it all in.

Love ECM, really like Ralph Towner, let's not forget him! Steve Tibbetts, too. Huge influence, although he's way outside the jazz paradigm.

Hey Kev and co.

I'm running the risk of being a bit of a DJ Nazi here..
Seeing everyone is digging the ECM thing , I had to include this vid. It's not new jazz but it's one of the only vids I can find of Eberhard Weber playing with 3 out of 4 of his Colours band.

THAT band actually came right down to Hobart Tasmania in 82, my dad was their host and I spent the evening watching John Marshall from the wings of the auditorium and later picking his brains in front of the home fire. For a young budding drummer this was Hugely influential as you can imagine.

Some of you may know that Eberhard had a stroke two years ago and can't play anymore, as much as he tried with the encouragement of his wife. The link below is an exhaustive look t the current sitch with one of legends.

I saw this at The Melbourne Recital Centre earlier this year. They had a different drummer, still this is pretty lush.

Yes, that's good stuff. Check out his "Divine Shadows" CD, it was produced by Eivind Aarset, one of my favorite guitarists, who also played on the record.

That's nice! And the guitarist is even tapping with his left hand at one point! ;-)
