Omar Hakim, Nile Rodgers and Nathan East prove the value of superb musicians playing "real instruments", on what is arguably the smoothest synth-pop album of its time. Throw in big nods to (guest artist) Georgio Moroder, a few unexpected jam-style outros, beautiful orchestral themes (of the synthetic and acoustic varieties), and you've got a winner.

Not everyone is going love the vocoders and disco (almost bordering on schmaltz at times), but I'm a sucker for this stuff when it's done well. This is generally not complex music, but scratch the surface and be rewarded - Daft Punk are nothing if not meticulous in their production. Bass players, you owe it to yourselves to listen to Nathan East's tone on headphones. TIGHT does not do it justice.

Now get your dancing shoes on.
