Pino Paladino…!!
He's been quoted as saying this is one of his favourite tracks, some of his best work.

Re: Your favorite melodic bass lines?
All the melodic lines of Sir Paul For exemple https://soundcloud.com/catbasse/come-together-stick-drumsOr (ok it's Cello lines but it's like a little bass ) https://soundcloud.com/catbasse/eleanor-rigby-coverSorry it's a auto-promotion answer but I can say "Lady Madonna" "Drive my Car" "Dear Prudence" "Something" "She Came in Through the Bathroom" and more and more ..... Kind regards from France Olivier

That's OK, I love your version of that piece! And you totally nailed the bass parts. Perfect.

Re: Your favorite melodic bass lines?
Oh yes...Eberhard changed my bass-playing life very much the first time I heard him; I had picked up a copy of Silent Feet on vinyl from a secondhand shop and wore it out. That record and Michael Hedges's first album (speaking of...how about Manring on there? No frills, just fretless) pretty well shaped my whole musical outlook.

Re: Your favorite melodic bass lines?
I really dig the bassline from "Pump It Up" by Elvis Costello: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpprOGsLWUoI love how he does that fast ascending thing on the choruses..... And the bassline from "Blood Makes Noise" by Suzanne Vega for the weird punctuated fills and the "zooms" on the neck. At the end there's that crazy ascending breakdown again..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6qvIhygLTsWill Lee played this on Letterman when SV was on one time and the band totally nailed it. J.

I've been on a Stick Men kick this weekend and these guys are awesome. It's Tony Levin, Pat Mastelotto and Markus Reuter. Sick moody prog with just the right amount bite. Nice stuff.

Re: Your favorite melodic bass lines?
I'm always happy when I see someone remember Gary Thain. Other players in that situation (Uriah Heep) would have just hammered on 8th notes and not have come near the variations and fills Gary brought to the music. His background "pre-Heep" reveals a lot about his musicianship and what he brought to the group. Another great talent taken to soon.
