Hi Everyone.

After me going on, as I do, in the recent post about melodic bass lines I figured Marcus Miller needs his own thread.

Especially after finding this last night....!!

I've never been a huge fan of MM, until this day when he came to our town and inaugurate the new music shop there. He did an incredible job just with a drummer, in a shop still being built at that moment. Here are some extracts :

Tutu is amazing. pissed alot of Miles fans off. was in his Columbia years where he refused to write 'cause they had the publishing. so Marcus wrote Miles tunes...

How can you be a Miles fan and hate something he does, I just don't understand.

This has a lot more good stuff about Miles packed in there. Just Marcus' humility and fun attitudes, what being a real musician is about. Funny how those things have come into question for me more and more in this super sized world.....

It's All Good though..

Miles was always changing what he did, he was bound to alienate some people. Look at the reviews from when Bitches' Brew came out. "Oh, this isn't Jazz!" or "Miles is selling out to white america" or all this stuff. He wasn't going to please everyone with everything he did. Just the nature of how he worked.

I mean, there's plenty of bands where I like most of their albums and can't stand one or two of them. Doesn't make you any less of a fan, just cause you don't blindly accept everything an artist does just cause you like everything else they may have done previously. They're people. They make mistakes.

Hi Metalken. Yeah, It's funny how even my Dad, as great a jazz musician as he is, had that thing where, "oh I can't handle that" for some of Miles music, but he owned those same records you see.

His attitude was always given with a feeling of respectful distance and sense of humour, like Miles was a present waiting for us to get to it, an acquired taste for later.

I've started a Miles thread.
