Post Guitar-Viol: See How a Film Composer Uses One
Here's Tyler Bates with his Guitar-Viol:

and how the piece was eventually used in "The Watchmen":

I found this very inspiring on multiple levels; on one hand is the actual instrument itself and all the amazing sounds, and on another level how a master composer like Tyler Bates would apply it to creating a score. I also enjoyed how he explained his thought process...

I had no idea that so many film composers use this thing.

OH yes - that is indeed a fantastic instrument! My musical duo partner Erdem has one and as I've been mixing our records I have come to praise the sound of the TogaMan GuitarViol. Myself I have a Steinberg 5-stringed electric NS cello but the mics aren't at all as good sounding as the TogaMan's (although I find the non fretted neck more useful, while the TogaMan is fretted). You can bow a Grand Stick too but not with the same "cinematic touch" to the sound as the TogaMan gives you. I especially like how Erdem uses "effect bowing" on the TogaMan, like moving the bow in a short rapid way "shaking" out scary sounds and then going ponticello withe the whole thing to squeak out overtones closer to the bridge. The TogaMan also sounds great used as a regular guitar; it can deliver a very good "classic nylon stringed" tone. Here's a live concert clip where Erdem uses his TogaMan:
