Their albums are really good, but seeing them live, they take it to a whole new level. The energy level was amazing, and the skill and performance were superb. It was a smallish-medium venue (Slim's in San Francisco) and only about half full, but I think it shows the character of a true musician to put on a performance like that no matter if you're playing for 20 people or 20,000 people.

I'm a very analytical person, and I often find myself overthinking musical performances. Breaking down the technical aspects of the song and even meta-analyzing my analysis. But this was one of those occurrences where I found myself completely lost in the music. I didn't care what time signature they were in, or what gear Tony Levin was using, or what's up with Pat Mastelotto's technique, or what kind of tuning is on Markus Reuter's guitar. It was just one of those pure musical moments; the kind of stuff I live for.

Also, stayed after the show, met Tony Levin and got his autograph. My girlfriend was so amused by how giddy I got.

Yep
saw them here in Austin
( front row right at Tony's feet )
Got to say Markus Reuter really is amazing as well
he nails those Fripp lines ( breathless was great )
he opened with a Looping piece that was very cool

I've got some great pic's and video's just haven't uploaded them to youtube yet

One of the things I love about Tony is he is very approachable and seems to enjoy meeting his fans

Tom ( in Austin )

Wow, very envious of you both, I'd love to see them live - I hope they cross the pond and play in the UK sometime soon!
Tony Levin is a legend, and a BIG hero of mine - if I met him I guess I'd be way more than giddy!!

Totally jealous. And completely understanding of how giddy you got about getting Tony's autograph. He's royalty.

I was at Slim's last night too. I concur, Nomad, they were fantastic.

I felt a little bad for Markus because the audience was clustered around Tony. I guess it's a losing battle trying to stand out next to two King Crimson alumni - no matter how fabulous a musician you are. :)

when I saw them, Reuter knocked my socks off more than the KC alum. He is pretty miraculous on his 8-string guitar. At that show, it seemed to me that the audience was looking at all three of the performers.

I concur. They did some improvisational pieces, and when Reuter started shredding away, I'm not sure how many people were still watching Tony and Pat. He does have less of a stage presence though, and not that I would actually know, but I get the sense it's a part of his personality, that he would rather be the guy off to the side in the shadows. But I can appreciate that, since I'm like that, too. I would rather my music speak for me, rather than my stage performance.
