There is something special about seeing an old friend make it to the big time. When I was in HS I had a buddy who played bass pretty well. I was actually interested in playing bass but Glenn seemed so good to my teenaged ego that I didn't keep playing. Well, after HS Glenn did what a lot of young musicians do, he went to Nashville to make his fortune. And he did. Glenn Worf became one of top session players in Nashville and has played with many of the top country acts. Now he's Mark Knopfler's bass player. Watching this video this evening made me smile so big: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzjY8IK1c30[/youtube] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzjY8IK1c30 And here he is on the list of nominees for this years ACM awards, twice. http://www.acmawards.com/nominees/ The last time I saw him he was totally buzzing because he'd just finished a gig with James Taylor. He said he was totally starstruck and could hardly talk to him. I said, "Sure, Glenn, tell me all about it." with a big smile on my face. He's also are really nice person, still married to his HS sweetheart who I also knew. It's wonderful when a good old friend, who's a good person and a great musician, really makes it to the top. -Eric |
