What's going on here?
Hi, everyone. This guy seems to be doing some great stuff. There is no looping or backing track. Would those of you who understand the effects he's using please educate me on just what the heck he's doing? Thanks, -Eric http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7q1D9n_ADx0

Re: What's going on here?
Probably one or more cutting edge multi EFX units as well as a whammy-pedal during the solo. I hear some delay, phasing, some kind of octave divider for the bass part and other regular stuff. Maybe some midi in there but I'm not so sure about that. Some sophisticated signal splitting and routing. Well programmed and well executed. Extremely well executed. What you're really hearing is simply an amazing musician. As we used to say where I come from: "This guy has all his shit in one sock".

Re: What's going on here?
Eric, to answer your question- here is a direct view of his pedal board from his website. http://www.petterisariola.fi/#guitar-faqAnother famous "acoustic" guitar band I personally know all have MIDI installed like you would a Fishman under the bridge. The high quality condenser mike is picking up the acoustic sound of the guitar as well as his slap pop percussive effects, plus a magnetic pickup is routing some signal through the chain. hope this helps, Dave Brosky

Re: What's going on here?
Thanks for all the information, guys. He is a great player and I'm looking forward to more. I love it that the style started by Michael Hedges has so many practitioners now. Michael would be my age now and I sometimes wonder what he would be doing.

Killer!
Sounds to me like he's got a nice "shimmer" effect going on and other than that, it's all him.
