Post I have achieved greatness!
After nearly ten years, I have met a goal that I long sought. Over the years, I have been inspired by many players. To name just a few, Steve Adelson, Tony Levin, Tom Griesgraber, and Glenn Poorman come to mind. Ad after all this time I can consider myself in their league.

Don't get me wrong. Any one of these excellent musicians can play better with one finger than I can with nine. But after seven months of continuous radiation and chemotherapy, I have that certain something...

I have the look!

Hey man,

Very sorry to hear about your trials. If you don't mind me asking, what sort of cancer do you have?

Good to know you're still on board, making the best of your situation, and sharing your good humor with us here.

The look is good! The Levin/Adelson chic is good!

I admire your humorous attitude toward the situation. I wish you the best in your recovery.
Music and a great attitude will be important factors toward a great future.
BTW... it's a cool look

Kev - I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer on Nov. 4th. That's right, kiddies, the surgeon general was right after all. What sucks is that I had just quit smoking two months prior. What really sucks is that the treatment has left me with such a severe case of neuropathy, playing is all but impossible.

Steve - all humor aside, I have always admired your talent and technique. Meeting you and watching you play (Ann Arbor, 2006) is one of the highlights of my ten year Stick journey.

There are many other players who have inspired me (Greg H. especially), but they're not a part of the bald players club.

Jim

Post Re: I have achieved greatness!
I went through an episode like that 11 years ago and beat it rather quickly thanx to catching it early and the great doctors and facilities at UCLA. My mistake was getting into that cigar fad that all my friends were into around 2000 and it eventually gave me squammus cell throat cancer. But in 4 months of radiation 5 days a week and chemo once a week,I had a 4 night-a-week steady gig playing pedal steel at a night club Burbank and I missed zero gigs. I drove myself to the hospital each day and took the stairs instead of the elevator just as a personal statement. I just was not gonna have it - that's all. I was too busy - didn't have time for that shit. My daughter needed her daddy to get well. I lost some weight and looked a little frail but I wanted a cure, expected a cure and I damn well got a cure. That attitude and a cowboy hat got me through. I highly recommend it. Lotsa people have cancer - once - and it never comes back. Happens all the time. Picture yourself cured and stay intensely focused on that image. Get tight with your doctors, pick their brains,do your own research and get involved in your treatment decisions. Get up on your hind legs and take as much control as you can. Worked for me. Good luck to you my brother.

Almost 14 years a survivor of prostate cancer here. Congratulations on your humor. Aside from music, it's the best way through tough times.

Hey Jim! Man! That's a tough one to swallow. But the human animal perseveres every day and you have a lot of support here. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery and a return to the world of making music.
