There's a little drummer in all of us and seeing what this guy is up to is particularly satisfying to me.

Thanks Mike. If Ben Walsh is the originator, it amounts to a new invention with a new playing technique on skins to go with it. That's what I say about The Stick. The invention includes a new method on strings. It felt like more than an invention, like a physical morphing of extra fingers, and then the thumbs came into play.

This drum skin solo gives me the same sensation, as if he's growing extra arms, at least mapped in his head.

What kind of invention is this? What do you call a performance process that enlarges the musical scope "off the charts"? Some kind of evolution, I'd say.

Yeah the fact that he can hit another drum on the heretofore musically wasted upstroke effectively doubles the poly rhythmic capabilities of two drumsticks. And he seems to put those possibilities to good use. Some of his splintered rhythms remind me of a Ginger Baker drum solo. But whereas Baker needed both hands and both feet to perform a quadruplet, this guy only needs two hands for that. I'd say he's onto something.

See and they say Polyvinyl chloride is toxic, yet every one of these crazy contraptions of which YouTube is brimming with has PVC pipe. I think Polyvinyl chloride stirs creativity and opens up a manufacturing option for these creative individuals who played with Tinkertoys, Erector Sets, and Construct All 1000, 1500, &2000 units! :D

Although concept is valid, the set is for showing off during a performance- moving 4 feet in each direction to get the "forsaken unused up stroke" is a little excessive. He could have placed them closer, not sat in the middle, and had more maximization of energy and effort with the same result. We surely would not play a Stick where the strings are 4 foot apart? and took 4 u-hauls to get to a gig, nor would we throw our arms as far out and away as possible from our body and then bring them back in an attempt to play the next adjacent note one fret away?

Alternatively, show me a person who can juggle a live chainsaw, a bowling ball and a raw egg, now that's entertainment and my good friend Joe the Juggler! for reals!

on the other hand…. NIH has a differing perspective….

be careful with PVC we don't want any Stickists harmed out there!

Impressive! It would be even cooler if the drums weren't all tuned the same.
