There's absolutely no earthly reason whatsoever that this should have brought a tear to my eye. None at all. But it did.

Me too, Luc. Still my absolute favourite Christmas song ever (even though it's actually an anti-Christmas song). With the added bonus of Ian Anderson on flute, sounds gorgeous.

I read one of the comments on this video; someone re-posted a quote from Greg Lake's own Facebook page. He says it's more of an anti-commercial/anti-cynical Christmas song, thinking back to how children believe, and it led to the phrase (either out of his head or Peter Sinfield's, he's not sure) which became the lyric theme and the title.

My hat goes off the the guy or gal who mixed that recording. It sounded great.

Cool.
Greg Lake from Emerson lake and Palmer(a fav band)
Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull
There is a interesting pairing that sounds awesome.

Here is what came to mind as I listened to that, letting the music distract me from close attention to the lyrics:
My Head wrote:
The religion is sold in suburban book stores,
concrete rows of twentieth century plantations.
The brand new gospel is supposedly old lore,
"no shirt, no shoes, no salvation."

When you buy your religion,
you sell your soul.
Seek out some honest teaching,
before the lies take their toll.

When will you ever consider your trade?
Do you genuinely like it?
Your faith is someone else's interest rate,
take yourselves off of the market.

Those are not quite the words: I started to forget it the moment I started typing.

Yours, Rob?
Pretty good, I must say.

Thanks, Luc. It is mine, all the more so because I had to reconstruct what my mind had created and promptly forgotten.
